BEAUTY IN EVERY DETAIL

Original Style are more specific about Gold than about almost anything else they make. Their line is that it is gorgeous on its own, or mixed with Jet Black for added drama — and that is the only time in the whole Artworks range that they name a partner colour. It is worth listening to, because it is a manufacturer telling you how their own glaze wants using, and because it is a pairing this shop can supply properly: we hold Jet Black across the fullest piece list of any Artworks colour.
This is a short, deliberate range. Original Style make exactly four pieces in the Gold finish and we stock all four: the Half Tile, the Skirting Tile 152x152mm, the Sigma Moulding 152x26mm and the Omega Moulding 152x12mm. Alongside them we hold four decorative tiles carrying real gold lustre — the Fleur de Lis border and the Fleur de Lis two-tile set, each fired on a Jet Black ground and on a County White ground — together with the Art Deco Fans and Manhattan Borders that carry gold and platinum on one tile.
There is no field tile in Gold, and no cornice, corner trim or ornamented moulding. That is how the finish is made, and it tells you how to use it. Gold is a band, a border, a skirting course and a fine line of warm metal, run against plain tiling in another Artworks colour. Historically that is exactly what gold on ceramic has always been — the rim of a plate, the tooled line on a spine, the frame rather than the picture.
The two metallics are made in the same four pieces at the same prices, with the same fired lustre. The choice is temperature rather than quality: Gold is the warm one, Platinum the cool one. Gold suits a scheme that already has warmth in it — cream tiling, brass or bronze fittings, warm timber — and it is the one Original Style single out for pairing with Jet Black. Neither is the better tile.
The Gold finish and the gold lustre on the decorated tiles are real precious metal fired onto the face, and they behave like metal rather than like a coloured glaze. Warm water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth, and nothing else. Acidic limescale removers, descaling sprays, cream cleaners and scouring pads will dull or lift the metal, and that damage cannot be polished out. In a hard water area, wipe the surface while it is still wet rather than cleaning it chemically later.
Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or posted to you for the cost of postage. Delivery is free on UK orders over £1,000. Call the team on 01344 620211, or come and see it at 67 High Street, Ascot — a metallic glaze photographs badly and looks quite different in the hand.
