BEAUTY IN EVERY DETAIL

Charcoal Grey is where the Artworks range goes dark without going flat. Original Style describe it as a touch lighter than their Jet Black and, more usefully, less opaque — and that second point is the one that matters. Because the glaze is semi-opaque it sits thinner over the crown of a moulding and gathers in the hollows, so a length of Egg & Dart or Dentil comes out of the kiln with a real range of tone in it rather than reading as a silhouette. It was made in the first place to accompany the Fabergé decorative range, and it remains the most useful dark in the collection for anyone tiling with relief.
Fifteen shapes are stocked here in Charcoal Grey: the Field Tile and Half Tile for the wall itself, a Skirting Tile, a Plain Cornice and an External Corner Trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Rope, Albert, Hogarth, Scroll, Sigma, Astragal and Omega. All fifteen are held on our shelves, so a hall, a cloakroom or a bathroom can be drawn from one colourway from skirting to cornice without waiting on anything.
Original Style photograph this glaze in a hallway rather than a bathroom, running a dado above a Victorian geometric floor and finishing it with a bead course and a cornice. It suits that kind of room — halls, boot rooms, utility rooms, a dark cloakroom — as readily as it suits a shower or a splashback. Every piece is rated for internal walls, wet and dry; none of them is a floor tile.
On most greys the grout is a blending decision. Here it is a contrast one. A brilliant white joint, which is what the supplier's own photography uses, rules the grid across the wall and lets each profile be read at a glance. Take the joint down close to the tone of the tile and the whole wall fuses into a single mass, with the mouldings you chose for their relief no longer registering at all.
Beyond the fifteen we stock, Original Style will run a further group in this colourway to order, subject to a minimum quantity and a manufacturing lead time: the Rectangle 152 x 25mm, the Round Edge Long, Round Edge Short and Round Edge External, the corner wrapping pieces, the Internal Corner, and the handed corner mouldings for the Omega, Astragal, Albert, Victoria and Skirting. We also stock the Charcoal Grey decorative tiles on County White — cartouches, wreaths, trellises and borders, including the Fabergé Fleur de Lis the glaze was originally made to sit beside.
Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or posted to you for the cost of postage. Delivery is free on UK orders over £1,000. Call the team on 01344 620211, or come and see the range at 67 High Street, Ascot.
